Azadeh Stark is a cancer and molecular epidemiologist and holds the position of senior scientist at the Department of Pathology at Henry Ford Health System, Professor-in-Practice at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and Visiting Research Professor at the School of Nursing, Chiang Mai International University in Thailand. She has authored and co-authored more than 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts and three book chapters. Dr. Stark believes the best science and the most effective population health interventions result from constructive interdisciplinary collaboration. She has been an active participant in various community health improvement projects.

Andreas was born and raised in South Africa, a country with a rich heritage in outdoor living and healthy lifestyle tradition. After qualifying as a medical doctor in 1992 he worked as a General Practitioner with a special interest in treating Chronic Fatigue and during his specialist training he participated in psycho-immunology research. He has maintained his longstanding interest in all areas of Lifestyle Medicine, particularly exercise and nutrition, since taking up his first position as a Consultant Psychiatrist in 2000. Andreas maintains busy independent psychiatric practices in Bournemouth and Southampton and he has enjoyed lecturing and examining other doctors specializing in psychiatry and general practice. Dedicated to a more holistic approach to treatment and prevention of psychiatric conditions, Andreas was a Founding Member of the European Society for Lifestyle Medicine as well as the European Lifestyle Medicine Organisation . He has delivered many successful presentations to health professionals and the general public on lifestyle interventions. He is also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the British Society for Ecological Medicine. As a psychiatrist with many years of clinical experience Andreas knows that lifestyle interventions such as mindfulness, nutrition and exercise are crucial in recovery from most, if not all, psychiatric conditions. As the BSLM Director for Mental Wellbeing, he is invested in encouraging further research into Lifestyle Medicine and raising National awareness of how crucial it is for lifestyle factors to be addressed. He is particularly concerned about the rise in incidence of neurodegenerative conditions as well as lifestyle and environmental factors causing depression in the twenty-first century. In his spare time, Andreas has trained as a fitness professional. He is kept sane by his family, music, cycling and his Westie.

Prof. Franco obtained his MD at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá in 1998. He moved to the Netherlands to complete MSc and DSc degrees in clinical epidemiology and a PhD in public health and cardiovascular disease prevention (2005) at the Erasmus University Medical Center. Following a postdoc at Erasmus MC, he moved to the UK where he was a senior public health epidemiologist at Unilever England, assistant professor of public health at the University of Warwick, and then director of the MPhil program and clinical lecturer in public health at the University of Cambridge. In 2012 Prof. Franco returned to Erasmus University Medical Center where he is a professor of preventive medicine and the principal investigator of the cardiovascular epidemiology group. He also founded and directs the Rotterdam Intergenerational Ageing Research Center, ErasmusAGE, and he is a cofounder and the CEO of Erasmus Epidemiology Resources. A fellow of, inter alia, the European Society of Cardiology and St Edmunds’ College at the University of Cambridge, Prof. Franco was awarded the Dutch national public health prize of 2005. Prof. Franco is widely published with well over 500 publications and, not surprisingly, an H-index of 62. We are excited that Oscar Franco will formally begin his ISPM directorship on 1 June, 2018, and welcome him to Bern.

David Ross was commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1983 and graduated in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London in 1986. In 2012 he was appointed the Parkes Professor of Preventive Medicine and in 2014 an Honorary Queen’s Physician. He has been associated with MASTA, a travel medicine provider, circa 2005 and from 2012 has been their Consultant Medical Advisor. Recent travel medicine research interests have included malaria prevention and tuberculosis screening. David is also Deputy Chief Examiner of the Diploma in Medical Care of Catastrophes at the Society of Apothecaries and an examiner at the UK Faculty of Public Health.

Dr. Masako Morishita is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU). She is an environmental exposure scientist, focused on improving physicochemical characterization of indoor/outdoor airborne particles, quantification of biomarkers of trace metals, and emission source identification – all of which is essential for toxicological and epidemiological studies in public health. Until recently she led exposure assessment tasks in the Great Lakes Air Center for Integrated Environmental Research (funded by USEPA), and directed the Trace Metals Laboratory for the University of Michigan Environmental Health Sciences Core Center (funded by NIEHS). She now directs the newly-constructed MSU Exposure Science Laboratory. She is currently the PI of an NINR R01 project, conducting a community-based intervention study focusing on the reduction of personal PM2.5 exposure and adverse cardiovascular responses. She received her B.S. in chemical engineering and her M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental health sciences from the University of Michigan.

Vera Simovska is University Professor for Hygiene of Nutrition, Medical Dietetics and Health Management at the MIT University-Skopje. Prior to that, she was the founding director of the Master Studies for Nutrition, and Food Quality and Safety at the University of Bitola from 2012 to 2015. She was also a member of the Macedonian Committee for Health Promotion and an expert in the Ministry of Health from 2002 to 2011. From 2005, she is the first President of the National organization for the promotion of health-enhancing physical activity “HEPA Macedonia†which is a member of the WHO HEPA Europe. She was a National coordinator of several programs covered by the World Health Organization and an independent expert of the European Commission (FP7, HORIZON2020). Dr. Simovska research is focused in the area of public health nutrition, physical activity, obesity, cardiometabolic risk, and the NCD prevention and health promotion strategies and programs. She is the author of published academic books and chapters and over 100 original scientific articles.

He is the author of 20 books, In 2013 wrote chapter in a Book title “Biopsychosocial Perspective on Arab American : Cultural Development and Healthâ€. He has 194 publications. He has given 1190 presentations at scientific meetings. Participates in research funded by E.g., NIMH, CURES, Pfizer. He is one of the founders of “AlNahrain International Society of Iraqi Scientists†in 2017. In 2003 Prof. Jamil biography was listed in the 25th. & 26th. Dictionary of International Biography, Cambridge, as well as in the American Biographical Institute, USA. In 2012 the Iraqi Society of Occupational Health and Safety named the Conference Room of the Society by Professor Hikmet Jamil.
