Biography

Dr. Masako Morishita is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU). She is an environmental exposure scientist, focused on improving physicochemical characterization of indoor/outdoor airborne particles, quantification of biomarkers of trace metals, and emission source identification – all of which is essential for toxicological and epidemiological studies in public health. Until recently she led exposure assessment tasks in the Great Lakes Air Center for Integrated Environmental Research (funded by USEPA), and directed the Trace Metals Laboratory for the University of Michigan Environmental Health Sciences Core Center (funded by NIEHS). She now directs the newly-constructed MSU Exposure Science Laboratory. She is currently the PI of an NINR R01 project, conducting a community-based intervention study focusing on the reduction of personal PM2.5 exposure and adverse cardiovascular responses. She received her B.S. in chemical engineering and her M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental health sciences from the University of Michigan.
